Holland conquers seventh Rock Run

Joe Holland won his fourth straight - and seventh overall - individual Rock Run title Saturday, running the 44-mile perimeter of the island in seven hours and 41 minutes, setting a new course record by a minute.

Team Magellan, made of up Todd Prokop, Ryan Starbuck, Matt Schulze, Andy Marinelli and Brian Keefe, who are friends from New York and mainland Massachusetts, took home the relay team title, the second year in a row it has gone to an off-island team.

Rock Run a Success, Holland wins third solo title

For the first time in three years the Rock Run team title will be leaving the island, as the mainland team, If You're Not First You're Last, took home the win on a revised 38-mile course around the perimeter of Nantucket in four hours and 29 minutes.

Fifty miles of running on the beach wasn't enough for Courtney Anderson. After completing the 20th annual Rock Run as an individual, nearly nine and a half hours after she started her day at First Point on Coatue, Anderson, accompanied by her sister Aimee, kept running past the crowd of supporters at the finish line at Jetties Beach.

Whether by land or by sea, sporting enthusiasts hungry for competiion will have their plates full with three events scheduled for this weekend.

The trio of events kicks off on Saturday morning with the 19th annual Rock Run, a 50-mile relay race around the island that is not for the faint of heart. Teams of five compete in the grueling all-day event which begins on Saturday morning, with the first team usually finishing in around seven hours.
